Editorial & Correction Policy

1. Geometry data

Insert geometry (shape, clearance angle, tolerance class, fixing features, inscribed circle d1, thickness s and nose radius rε) is decoded from the designation itself according to ISO 1832. No catalogue value is needed for these positions, and values that cannot be derived from the standard tables are left empty and marked VERIFY rather than estimated.

2. Brand-specific data

Ordering codes, chipbreaker designations, substrate, CVD/PVD coating, workpiece-group applicability and cutting-speed guidance are extracted from the manufacturer’s officially published catalogue (web pages or published PDF). Each stored value carries a source reference containing the document title, URL or catalogue version, and the extraction date. When two sources conflict, both are retained and flagged, never silently merged.

3. Cross-reference grades

• FULL — identical geometry and the same ISO 513 group, application band and coating family in both official catalogues.
• PARTIAL — same geometry and application band, but different coating or edge preparation.
• VERIFY — commonly quoted in the trade but not confirmed in both official catalogues.

Geometry substitution on an identical core code is safe by definition of ISO 1832; grade substitution always requires review against the workpiece material and cutting data. Pages state this wherever an equivalent is shown.

4. What we do not do

• We never invent specifications: absent values are stored as null and omitted from the rendered page.
• We do not reproduce copyrighted catalogue tables; we store individual facts with citations.
• We do not accept payment to alter match grades or invent an equivalence.
• Brand names and trademarks are used strictly for identification; InsertBase is independent and is not authorised by any listed manufacturer.

5. Verification status

Each page shows whether its brand data has been catalogued and states the catalogue version. Geometry rows cite ISO 1832; brand rows cite their individual source. Manufacturer catalogues can be revised without changing the designation — treat the cited version as part of the specification.

6. Corrections

If a value is wrong, outdated, or mis-cited, email hello@insertbase.com with the model code and the source you believe is correct. Confirmed corrections are applied with an updated source and date, and significant corrections are noted on the affected page.

7. Engineering use

All data is published for reference only. Always verify the complete ordering code and cutting data against the current manufacturer catalogue and your toolholder before machining or purchasing decisions.
