About InsertBase
An independent reference database for indexable cutting inserts — neutral, source-cited, built for engineers and buyers who need verified geometry and equivalents.
InsertBase helps you answer the two questions behind every insert purchasing decision: what does this code physically mean, and which other manufacturer makes an equivalent.
Geometry comes from the ISO 1832 designation standard and is decoded deterministically — shape, clearance, tolerance, fixing, inscribed circle, thickness, nose radius and hand. Brand-specific data — full ordering codes, chipbreaker suffixes, coatings and carbide grades — is extracted from each manufacturer’s official catalogue and stored with a source citation, version and date.
Substitution advice uses three levels: FULL (same geometry and equivalent grade band), PARTIAL (geometry matches; chipbreaker or grade differs) and VERIFY (confirm against the target catalogue before ordering). Read the editorial policy for the full methodology.
